Tracks + Videos: Anna Calvi “Blackout”

Anna Calvi is one of the brand new voices making a splash debut in 2011. Favorite to artists such as Brian Eno and Nick Cave, her individual sonic landscape offers as a new take on David Lynchian surrealism mixed with Maria Callas’ passionate and over-the-top dramatic vocals. The result is strikingly beautiful and unique, an adjective that has been used time and again to describe this UK singer and songwriter. Below you can find the haunting “Blackout”, the appetizer for her self-titled debut album. The video is a weird and artsy head trip that that could be described as the short-film cousin to David Lynch’s “Lost Highway”. And that is good in anyone’s book, isn’t it?
