Another month, another dazzling yet nonsensical new Lady Gaga video. Yoü and I is the fourth single from her record breaker Born This Way album and the video is the expected sequence of stunning avant-gard fashion imagery, even if there’s not much of a poignant story going on here. She’s seen walking barefoot, bleeding her way to Nebraska, playing the piano in the middle of a cornfield to her male alter-ego Jo Calderone (a Gainsbourg-like creation of photographer Nick Knight for Vogue Hommes Japan), being happily tortured in a barn by a hot male lover and eventually turning into a mermaid. Makes total sense, right? Those “in the know” say that this song is about her on-and-off 6 year relation with her current man (some guy named Luc Carl that is actually from Nebraska). There seems to be way too much layers of symbolism here, mostly about the idea of trying to change what one really is, but we’ll take Gaga’s twitter comment on the video as a way to sum things up: The more he tries to fix me, the more magical I become. Fair enough.
